There are two types of screening that are used commonly in WWTP’s.
The first type is coarse screening. The screens have openings of 6 mm and bigger. The function is to remove large solids (rags, cans, wood, etc.) from the wastewater before it reaches the equalization tank. Coarse screens can be manually or automatically cleaned.
The second type is fine screening. The openings are smaller and it is commonly used to remove fibers from the wastewater in recycled paper mills. These valuable fibers are recycled back to the mill for reuse.
